We are having a real nice time in Capetown. You should come when you get a chance. As a city it seems to shift between eurocosmopolitan and unspeakable poverty. In the Garden District where we are staying, it is pretty multicultural and biracial. Nice place, very walkable. We have been getting around by foot and cab.

Translating the money is tricky, but it is 7 rand to the dollar pretty much. You can do quite a bit with 70 rand. Dinner has been going around 30-50 bucks for all of us with huge proportions of delicious food. Tipping is hard to figure out, too much and you throw off the standards, and too little and you're just a cheap american. Tonight we had a dinner of leftovers and some goodies from a bakery around the corner. Its all a bit salty, and very spicy in many different ways. Yum.

Tomorrow we go to Robbens Island, weather permitting. This afternoon it rained, and nobody but me brought raincoats. Damp. Fortunately the room has two down comforters and a space heater. It made for a nice nap in the afternoon as Liz read up on the things we want to do, and Angela watched a tv show on Albert Einstein. She didn't even hardly look for kids shows(!).

We have been living a little richly for our custom, and today cut our spending rate in half. Hopefully tomorrow we can keep the expenses reasonable and still have a good time doing everything we set out to do.
