Design Questions

Message

I will be travelling to South Africa for a week, then on to Malawi for a month. I will use my time there to check out some of the Fab Labs in South Africa, and to see generally what people are doing to make things for their own needs. I will conduct a workshop on podcasting for NGO's in Malawi, and will spend a few days in the labs in South Africa. As I go, I will photograph and write about what I see.

One of the questions I am asking of people before I go next week: Is there anything you would like to know about what is going on in these places?

Send me responses via email.

How are the people in the South Africa Labs doing their processes? What can we learn from their techniques?

How do you get an organization to become more than a one location entity? How can organizations become global in their reach and influence?

Being a sounding board for ideas from Fab Labbers who might be

interested in submitting something for the 4x8 competition. Pointing

them towards good ways to docment their ideas online would help us

answer questions from them that come up later (and we know that you

know all about documenting on the web :) Perhaps this is a good time

to test Fab Central - the site Amy pointed you to.

Lots of pictures of how they do/make things from everyday materials would be good.
